5th Meeting of the WHS Reunion Committee
June 10, 2001
Attendees:
Bob Potter, Bob Mascarello, Ted Grundmeier, Karen McManus Brown, Carol Meyers Walker, Richard (Dick) Speer,
Judy Russell Butler, Marilyn Bratton Kaes, Loyd Volgamore, Joyce Gray Breheny, Jim Butler, Sharon Albee Dumont,
This was a potluck supper meeting enjoyed on the patio of the Butler manor house.
After dinner, Marilyn Bratton Kaes presented her prototypes for the cover of the Memory Book. The committee applauded her ideas. She turned the samples over to Joyce Gray Breheny. The cover will be printed on two different colors of cover stock; half to be blue with the other half gold. Marilyn experimented with two different colors of ink, but blue ink turned green on yellow backgrounds. Thus, the ink color she recommended is black. The committee all agreed that was a great solution.
Karen McManus Brown presented an updated list of those attending and the financial statement. Jim Butler needs to know about the cost of picnic. Karen wants each sub-committee to give an idea of how much they will spend.
Joyce Gray Breheny reported that the original estimate for printing 100 Memory Books was $200. She does not know how that will change if the actual number ordered changes, but expects it will be close to correct. Ted Grundemeier asked if it would be possible for Joyce to provide an electronic copy of the data for the Memory Book. Joyce will see if it can be done with her software. If not, Ted, Dick, and Bob Potter will come up with a way to put the information on the Web.
Carol Meyers brought another card for the Committee to sign and send to our friend Dennis Edinger. She also had a sympathy card that everyone signed so she may mail it to Kathy Naylor. Kathy was kind enough to contact us about Jay's sad and untimely death.
Carol rode her bike to the picnic site, Bear Creek Lake Park. She found that eighteen large tables are in the area we reserved. Each will seat 8 or so people and should be adequate. She believes two or three tables should be used for food and cooking materials. She brought a map with our area, "Coyote Crossing" highlighted. Bob Potter will put the map on the web site and maps will also be provided at the dinner. The park is located about 1470 Morrison Road, near Soda Lakes.
Carol also gave each member another copy of the picnic supply list. She requested members to think about what other supplies may be needed and advise her. She recommends that all local alumnae bring some folding lawn chairs. She also suggested that the Committee provides bug spray and/or bug candles since the biting beasts could be thick in August. The Committee agreed. Jim Butler will purchase such items and be reimbursed.
Carol will do two boards for the dinner; one for found and one for not found classmates. Carol has a poem for our deceased classmates to be read while pictures are shown.
Carol reminded everyone that NO DENIM IS ALLOWED at the dinner-dance.
Karen McManus Brown and Sharon Albee Dumont provide numerous "good-old-days" photos for Loyd Volgamore for one of his projects. Sharon also had other mementos that she gave to Dick Speer and to Bob Potter to scan onto the Web site.
Ted Grundemeier said that things have slowed down a bit. He will e-mail the whole list on an Excel file to the members. Ted is looking for more work. He recommended an Internet site, RockinWoman.com, for 50's and 60's Do-Wah music. Terry Granger is to meet with the DJ in the next few days about music selection. He will check this site. Dick Speer has listed all in the Billboard Top Forty songs from the summer of 1956 to summer of 1961. He will send copies of this list to Terry Granger and to Ted Grundemeier. Terry will provide the DJ with the song selection. Ted will use it to "burn" some CDs to be played at the picnic.
Bob Potter said he puts new submissions on the front page and then moves them back onto another page further into the Web site.
Jim Butler asked that each sub-committee bring a budget or expense estimate to the next meeting. We need to find money for door prizes unless more start coming in soon. Bob Mascarello and Terry Granger will hit the pavement very soon and expect to find plenty of gifts for door prizes. Dick Speer's brother was a Safeway manager and he recommends that Bob and Terry hit the grocery stores because the store managers have plenty of discretion to give such gifts.
Dick Speer said the Trivia Game Committee is moving ahead. They will be having a meeting on June 20th, 7:00 P.M., at Carol's house.
Sharon Crabb Richardson sent word that 5 teachers are coming.
The next Reunion Committee meeting will be another potluck at the Butler's. It will begin at 5:00 PM on July 15, 2001. Jim Butler wants everyone to bring some gossip about a classmate or a good joke or something fun to do at that meeting. All are invited, including spouses!!!
We currently have found 206 people from our class. If you know addresses or phone numbers of anyone, please check the attached list. If the person isn't on the list, contact Ted Grundmeier at the above e-mail or call 303 469-3958 with the facts. Thanks. It would be great to find everyone!!!
See you soon!
