6th Meeting of the WHS Reunion Committee
July 15, 2001
Attendees:
Bob Potter, Barb Evans Drake, Ted Grundmeier, Karen McManus Brown, Carol Meyers Walker, Patsy Flood England,
Judy Russell Butler, Karen Clark Hagaman, Loyd Volgamore, Joyce Gray Breheny, Jim Butler, Sharon Albee Dumont
We had our second potluck supper meeting again enjoyed on the patio of the Butler manor home. We also enjoyed the company of Cathy Potter, Kelly Volgamore, Debbie Grundmeier, and Bob Lashell.
CORRECTION TO JUNE 9 MINUTES: The correct address for the picnic is 15600 W. Morrison Road; Coyote Crossing. Please accept my apologies for the incorrect information previously published.
Ted Grundmeier:
After dinner, Ted Grundmeier began with his report about the database he is maintaining that consists of all lost, found, and deceased classmates. It is current as of today.
Ted also reported that he has cut CDs with all music listed on the e-mail he previously sent to the committee members. This music will be played during the picnic. Ted asked everyone to please send him any other music they would like to have included on the CDs. Per Jim Butler, there is no electricity at the park. Ted will bring a backup boom box with batteries and Jim will bring a generator.
Carol Meyers Walker:
Carol gave Bob Potter the sheet with all the information about the park: a map, $3 to park, locals requested to bring a potluck dish and lawn chairs, no hard liquor, and no glass. The committee will meet at the park by 11:00 AM to set up. Bob Potter will put the information that Carol gave him on the Web site, and Carol will bring the list of what we all said we would all bring to the next meeting because no one remembers what they had said! Carol pointed out that the address for the park was printed wrong in the minutes for the last meeting. Barb will add a correction to these minutes.
Carol needs another easel for the dinner dance. Jim Butler and Sharon Albee Dumont will each check for one and ensure that one is provided.
Carol and Bob will take pictures of everyone as they arrive at the dinner dance just after receiving their name badge, picnic map, and Memory Book. Carol will pin each picture next to the "Annual" picture she will have displayed on the easel.
The following people will be responsible for the various tables at the dinner/dance:
Karen McManus Brown and Karen Clark Hagaman: Nametag table
Barb Evans Drake: Memory Book, Picnic Map, and Park Regulations
Carol Meyers Walker and Bob Lashell will be responsible for taking photos of everyone after each person leaves the tables. Sharon Albee Dumont and Jim Butler will help steer people through the maze.
Patsy Flood England:
Patsy Flood England reported that there would be tables that seat 10 now since a total of 144 are attending the dinner dance as of the date of this meeting. A podium will be provided with one microphone. The cost is $42.11 per person for the American buffet. The cost for the two bartenders and tip is $210.00. Karen McManus Brown will pay the charges the afternoon we are decorating.
Patsy continued her report by sharing that Linda Kruback will bring blue and gold balloons. Patsy will rent a helium tank. The balloons will be attached to string and then to saucers. The "decorations" provided by Lakewood Country Club will sit in the saucers except at the Teachers' table. Judy Butler will order 10 large yellow mums. Patsy will buy blue pipe cleaner to make big Ws to "glue" onto the flowers. Judy will check to see what type of glue is used on flowers. These mums will be placed on the saucer at the Teachers' table and on the tables out front for nametags, Memory Books and picnic maps.
It was agreed that the committee would be at the Lakewood Country Club on Saturday, August 11, at 2:00 PM to decorate, ensure the PowerPoint presentation works, etc. We will all leave to "fancy up" and return at 5:00 PM to finalize everything to perfection.
Karen Clark Hagaman:
Karen reported on the outcome of the meeting the Trivia Sub-Committee held. The Sub-Committee consists of Sharon Albee Dumont, Dick Speer, Carol Meyers Walker, and Karen Clark Hagaman. The game will have 10 teams. There will be 30 questions passed to each team, all different. The categories that the questions consist of are politics, advertising, sports, band, chorus, the area, make-out places, music, etc. Dick Speer has gone wild with these questions.
The name tags, to be made by Sharon Albee Dumont, for the picnic will each contain a colored dot or star. The teams will be formed of like colored dots or stars. Couples will have the same colors. This is a great way to "mix" the crowd up.
It was agreed that right after lunch would be the best time for the Trivia Game. It will last ½ hour. Jim Butler will rent a bullhorn. Jim also recommended great prizes for the winning team. Bob and Terry will need to come up with the prizes. Some ideas were lottery tickets or movie tickets. Jim said there should be prizes for the volleyball and other games as well. Ted G. volunteered to get with Bob and Terry about this so they can be prepared for the next meeting as well as the dinner/dance and picnic.
Karen McManus Brown:
Per Karen, we have $8351.28 in the bank as of today. The dinner will be $6,400.17, leaving $2276.11 for everything else. If approximately $500 is spent for the Memory Books and $500 for entertainment, we should be just fine for the miscellaneous items to still be purchased and/or rented. Any money left over will go for the Web site. More on that in a moment when Bob Potter reports.
Loyd Volagmore:
Loyd said his photo presentation is coming along nicely. He needs a screen and projector for the PowerPoint presentation. Patsy said we could rent a rather large screen from the Country Club. We all agreed a white wall would be better. Patsy will check for a white wall. If none, we will rent the screen from the Country Club rather than have someone drag one in and out. Both Jim Butler and Bob Potter will have laptop PCs. One will be a backup for the other.
We all agreed it would be best to run the "show" during the cocktail time as an icebreaker as well as when we are eating. Loyd said that running the program at least 2 times should cover that timeframe. In addition, we agreed that Sharon Crabb Richardson would introduce the teachers and their guests before the dinner begins.
Bob Potter:
Bob said that it is going to cost us $30 a year for 25 megabytes going forward for the whs61 Web sit. The free days are over. We all agreed that it is worth the expense. Pictures from the reunion will be added to the Web site. A year will provide everyone time to enjoy and reminisce. In addition, Joyce Gray Breheny will add the URL in the Memory Book. We all agreed that Terry and Dick are to introduce Bob Potter during the "entertainment" portion of the dinner/dance program to talk about the current site as well as its future. This will allow those who don't know about it to learn first hand from the "pro".
Bob also reported that Bill Field has 15 to 16 people so far for golf on Friday. Jim said that was plenty for a fun time. The time and location is on the Web site.
Jim Butler:
Jim listed the items he will be getting for the picnic. Charcoal will be included. It was agreed that Jim would buy the water and pop rather than Bob Mascarello. Jim is going to COSTCO and can get it all at one time. Bob will bring ice and the horse trough only to the picnic. We need to remind Bob at the next meeting!!!
Joyce Gray Breheny:
Joyce reported that the Memory Book is in the process of being put together. Submissions will continue to be taken and included up to July 24, but NO further. Joyce will get the completed books to Lakewood Country Club at 2:00 on Aug. 11.
Barb Evans Drake:
Barb reported that she would have the nametags complete for the dinner/dance. A number will appear on each nametag with a corresponding number on a separate small piece of paper. Barb will bring the nametags and the little pieces of paper to Lakewood Country Club in the afternoon as well. There will be blank nametags available for any last minute show ups. Carol Meyers Walker has a great jar to put the pieces of paper in for the drawing of door prizes.
Sharon Albee Dumont:
Sharon will have the nametags completed for the picnic. They will be passed out at the picnic.
The Next Meeting:
Jim and Judy Butler will be out of town for our last meeting on Sunday, August 5. Joyce Gray Breheny offered to have the meeting at her home. It will be another potluck. Everyone will bring what he/she has in the past.
Joyce's address is 4927 S. Kline Street. To get there, go south on Kipling to Bellview. Go right (west) on Bellview to Miller. Turn right on Miller. Go to the stop sign. Joyce and Mike Breheny's home is the 2nd house on the right. Joyce's telephone number is 303-973-0782.
Dick, Bob and Terry MUST attend the next meeting. We need to finalize the prizes and the program. In addition we will verify that everything is complete and ready to go. This will be our last meeting.
Currently we have 147, including the teachers, attending the dinner dance. We have 118 coming to the picnic and 106 for the Memory Book.
It's almost here! See you soon!
